Waxing Contraindications Prep Guide
Before You Book:
Waxing Safety Checklist
We want you to feel safe, confident, and comfy in every appointment. To keep your skin happy, please take a moment to read through this checklist before you book.
Absolute No-Go’s (Sorry, Love!)
We cannot wax if:
You’re on Accutane (Isotretinoin) or have been off it for less than 1 year.
You’re currently using prescription acne medications (like Retin-A, Differin, Tazorac, etc.).
You’ve had chemotherapy, radiation, or laser resurfacing recently.
You’ve been in the sun or tanning bed in the last 24 hours.
The skin is irritated, inflamed, cut, or sunburned.
You want waxing directly over body piercings.
General Precautions
Wait 7+ days after microdermabrasion or a light peel.
Wait 1 year after laser resurfacing.
Wait 2 years after a physician-administered deep peel.
Sensitivity is often higher the week before your period.
Avoid waxing if you have chronic skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis, or severe rosacea — let’s chat first.
Things to Pause or Avoid Around Your Wax
To prevent irritation, avoid using these products in the waxed area 3 days before and after your appointment:
Retinol, Retin-A, or other prescription acne creams
Strong exfoliants (salicylic, glycolic, lactic acid, white willow bark, etc.)
Hydroquinone or bleaching creams
Harsh scrubs or peels
If you’re using products with alpha hydroxy acids over 8%, you’ll need to wait a few months before it’s safe to wax.
Things That Make You Extra Sensitive
Pregnancy, birth control, or hormone therapy
Antibiotics or other medications that thin or sensitize skin
Smoking or rosacea (can increase redness/capillary irritation)
Recent caffeine or alcohol — both can make you redder or more prone to bruising
